Band Announcements for the Week of April 27, 2015

Curtains: Congratulations to the cast, crew, and pit on a fantastic run! What a fun show!

SMB in the Press: The SHS Band got some great press on Friday. The Daily Herald ran an article on our upcoming trip to New Orleans (click here), and NBC 5 did a story on it for their 6pm newscast (click here).

Panera Night Tuesday: Help support the SHS Tri-M Music Honor Society at the Panera Bread at Schaumburg and Barrington Road Tuesday, April 28 from 4pm to 8pm. Bring a copy of this flyer and a portion of your purchase will go back to our Tri-M Chapter. We hope to see you there!

Manna Fundraiser: finishes up this week. Orders are due this Friday. This is the final fundraiser this school year, with 90% of all profits going toward student trip accounts. All materials are available on the main band webpage.

The following students owe money for the Cookie Dough/Popcorn Fundraiser: Monzon ($535), Reddy ($1), Strohmeier ($17). Please turn in this money ASAP.

Sectionals: we have an adjusted schedule this week due to PARCC testing. WS Monday, SB/CB Thursday, Cadet Friday.

Jazzers: no rehearsals this week.

Night of Percussion: This Thursday, April 30 @ 7pm. Come hear all five concert ensembles, as well as solos and smaller groups. Percussionists - remember that you have a dress rehearsal Wednesday, April 29 7-9pm.

Schoology Assignments: all bands have Schoology assignments due on Friday.

Drum Major Auditions: petitions are due Monday. Clinics Monday/Tuesday and auditions Thursday.

Missing Senior Bios: Amidon (photo), Deelsnyder (bio & photo), Howaniec (photo), Jaimes (bio & photo), Molina (photo), Prabhakar (photo). Please turn these in ASAP.

Concert Review Opportunities: This Sunday, the Palatine Concert Band presents their Spring Concert at 3:30pm at Cutting Hall. The program includes Aaron Copland's Lincoln Portrait(!!!), narrated by WFMT host Carl Grapentine.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SYMPHONIC BAND AND WIND SYMPHONY ON THEIR PERFORMANCES AT THE CHICAGOLAND INVITATIONAL CONCERT BAND FESTIVAL THIS PAST SATURDAY! For the first time in SHS history at this festival, both groups were awarded Division I "Superior" ratings. What an incredible day of music making! Congratulations on your performances and the hard work it took to get there. Thank you for representing SHS so well.


Congratulations to Leilah Petit, winner of the 2015 Schaumburg High School Concerto Competition! She will be performing Mozart's Concerto for Flute with the Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday, May 27.

Percussion: Reminder - you have a dress rehearsal next Wednesday, April 29 evening 7-9pm for Night of Percussion. Concert is Thursday, April 30.

THE 2015 SHS MUSICAL, CURTAINS, OPENS THURSDAY FOR ONE WEEKEND OF SHOWS! Check out this murder mystery comedy and the many talented students on stage, in the pit, and behind the scenes! Shows are Thursday at 6pm and Friday/Saturday at 7pm. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for seniors/students. Yes, this may be used for concert reviews.

CSO Field Trip: Tuesday - periods 2-8. Come to the band room right after 1st hour. Make sure you have turned in your field trip form. You cannot ride the bus without turning in this form. Check out Shostakovich 8 and read the program notes handed out in class before Tuesday.

Sectionals: will start up again next week.

Jazzers: no rehearsals this week due to the musical.

Pit Orchestra: every day this week.

Cookie Dough/Popcorn Fundraiser: due today.


Seniors: Awards program information and senior portraits due ASAP.

Chicagoland Invitational Concert Band Festival: this Saturday, the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band will both perform at this regional concert band festival at Hersey. WS/SB call time is 10:45 at SHS. Symphonic Band members: make sure you have your new "concert attire" for this performance. SB performs at 12:30 in the East Gym, and WS performs at 1:00 in the Main Gym. We would love to see some Saxons in the audience. $5 for students. Come check out some of the best high school bands in our area, along with the Western Illinois University Wind Ensemble. Cadet/CB: you can use this festival for a concert review.

Concert Review Opportunities: On Sunday, the Northshore Concert Band will be performing at 3pm at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall at Northwestern. Robert Sullivan (trumpet professor at NU) will be their guest soloist. $7 for students. More information at www.northshoreband.org.

Laura Reyna, Colleen Wilkes, Andrew Wirtz, Heather Foret, Homer Homa, Carolyn Warren, Rachel Worazek, Radek Czech, Liesel Haffner, Jemi Kim, Caroline Vaporis, Aaron Fradin, Robyn Heitman, Drew Kissamis, Kaitlyn Deelsnyder, Sarah Jaris, Patrick Ward, Peter Aburto, Vinay Prabhakar, Elliot Krueger, Ethan Garratt, Griffin Lober.

CSO Field Trip: Next Tuesday, April 14. Tickets are available to seniors and password holders Monday, juniors Tuesday, sophomores Wednesday, freshmen Thursday. Field trip forms need to be returned this Friday. You cannot ride the bus without turning in this form.

Sectionals: none this week. If you are in the department during a free hour, you should be practicing.

Jazzers: no rehearsals this week due to the musical.

Pit Orchestra: every day this week.

Auditions: begin Monday. 
Sign up for alternative times if possible. Remember extra credit sheets are due next Friday.
