Band Announcements for the Week of March 30, 2015

Jazzers: Big Bands rehearse Monday night with Chris Madsen. Lab Band 5:30-7:00, Ensemble 7:00-9:00. Please be early. Combos will run through their tunes in-between the big bands Monday night. Call time for Wednesday is 6:00 for all jazzers to help set up for the evening.

Jazz 'n Joe Jazz Coffeehouse: Wednesday @ 7pm. Admission is $2. We are looking for about 15 non-jazzers to serve refreshments for the evening. If you are interested, please sign up today on the list posted on the board.

Sectionals This Week: Wind Symphony Monday (March of the Steelmen), Symphonic Band Tuesday (Amparito Roca), Concert Band AND Cadet Band Wednesday (work on audition materials).

Pit Orchestra: rehearsals Tuesday/Thursday 3:00-5:00 this week. These are our last two rehearsals without the cast.

Auditions: begin next Monday, April 6th. Be prepared. Extra credit sheets are available at the front door (due Fri 4/17).

Cookie Dough/Popcorn Fundraiser: launches Tuesday. This is our first New Orleans trip fundraiser.


New Orleans Trip Payments: due Wednesday, April 1st.

Trumpets:
NIU is hosting its first ever Trumpetfest this Friday and Saturday, featuring Chris Martin (principal trumpet, Chicago Symphony Orchestra) and Bill Denton (principal trumpet, Lyric Opera). Saturday includes masterclasses with both Martin and Denton, a concert by the Illinois Brass Band, and recitals by Chris Martin and NIU Trumpet Alumni...all for free! Check this out if you're available! See bulletin board outside the music office for more info.


Concert Webcast: the Oberlin Conservatory Chamber Orchestra (featuring SHS band alum Jackie Meger on horn) will have a live webcast of their concert this Saturday at 7pm (Bruch's Double Concerto for Clarinet and Viola and Schubert's "Great" 9th Symphony). Click here for the link.

Concert Week! Band-Aid Concerts this Monday (Cadet/CB) and Tuesday (SB/WS). Call time is 6:30 for all bands. Admission is $5 (or $7 for both nights if you buy ahead of time). There is some GREAT repertoire on these programs, and you guys have worked very hard. Go support your fellow Saxons and a wonderful cause in the National MS Society! There is also an Orchestra Concert this Wednesday (free), featuring many bandos in the Symphony Orchestra. Great concert review opportunities!

Sectionals: Wind Symphony Monday, Symphonic Band Tuesday. Work on all trouble spots in your music. Please use the full half period. No sectionals for Cadet or CB this week, but you are welcome to come down and practice audition music.

Auditions: Audition materials are now posted on Schoology. Auditions begin Monday, April 6th.

Jazz Bands: no rehearsals this week. Please make sure you are working on Jazz 'n Joe charts. Our rehearsal with Chris Madsen will be the first evening back from Spring Break.

Curtains Pit Orchestra: Thursday 3-5pm.

Concert This Weekend: The Northshore Concert Band (featuring Mr. Tipps) will perform a free concert Saturday at noon at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall at Northwestern University.

Spring Break Postcards: Going some place fun for break? Woodfield, perhaps? No matter where you go, bring back a postcard for our bulletin board!

IHSA Solo and Ensemble: Congratulations to all who completed their goals and performed this weekend! Out of 84 band events, 49 received Division I Superior Ratings. We also had two perfect scores (Leilah Petit, and Leilah Petit/Seira Walter) and three "Best of the Day" awards (Sean Honesty, Jemi Kim, and Griffin Lober). Congrats!

Jazz Rehearsals This Week: Lab Band Monday 3:00-5:00pm. Jazz Ensemble Monday 7:00-9:00pm. Quintet Wednesday 3:00-4:00pm. Sextet Thursday 3:00-4:00pm.

Curtains Pit Orchestra: Tuesday/Thursday 3:00-5:00pm this week.

Sectionals: Concert Band Wednesday (Different Voices), Wind Symphony Thursday (Vesuvius/Ride), Symphonic Band Thursday (Emperata/Mother Earth), Cadet Band Friday (Longford Legend).

Seniors: The Band Booster Scholarship application is now available on the website at schaumburgband.com/boosters. Anyone who plans on taking a music class or ensemble is eligible for this scholarship (a music major or minor is not required). Applications are due Monday, April 27th.

Congratulations Jazzers: on your performance at Jazz in the Meadows! The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Quintet received a Division II "Excellent" rating (both were very tough rooms this year), and the Jazz Sextet and Jazz Lab Band performed non-competitively. Thank you for representing SHS so well.

MS Society Shirts: The band sold 101 shirts, raising $341.60 for the National MS Society. That's fantastic! Shirts will arrive the week of the concert.
