Rob Nordli - Jazz Improvisation
Rob Nordli is a Chicagoland based educator and saxophonist. He has shared his music in Germany, Mexico, and all across the United States. As both a student and professional, Rob has accompanied international acts such as Manhattan Transfer, The Temptations, and The Four Tops. In the Jazz Scene, he can be seen performing with his group Rob Nordli Jazz Quartet, and various Chicago land big bands such as Shout Section Big Band and Blues Shift Big Band. Rob can be heard on Shout Section’s latest album “Swingin’ On The Stand” (2019).
As an educator, Rob has taught in the private, public, and university settings including Steward Elementary, Northern Illinois University, and his private studio in Schaumburg Illinois. He has offered jazz master classes at high schools and universities across the country including Harper College, Northern Illinois University, Southern New Hampshire University, and Schaumburg High School.

Paul Semanic - Trumpet
Paul Semanic is a member of the Rockford Symphony and the Chicago Bach Ensemble. He has performed with Grant Park, Elgin, Northwest Indiana, Knoxville and Southwest Michigan Symphonies. He is the Artistic Director and Principal Trumpet with the Stonegate Brass Quintet and the Brass String Chamber Ensemble. He has been a featured guest solo artist on the WFMT broadcast of the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert series and is the Trumpet Soloist each year for downtown Chicago’s “Do-It-Yourself-Messiah”. Paul studied with the world renowned brass section of the CSO (Chicago Symphony Orchestra) while performing with the Chicago Civic Orchestra, the training orchestra with the CSO. Mr. Semanic has taught private trumpet lessons at the University of Tennessee, University of Chicago, North Central College, Benedictine University as well as trumpet lessons and master classes at numerous high schools. Paul also enjoys teaching Tai Chi and Chi Gong (the Science of the Breath) which removes stress and provides an excellent balance of good posture and energy through relaxed deep breathing. This provides a relaxed approach for trumpet performance and teaching.

Naomi Matsunaga - Oboe
Naomi Matsunaga holds a Master of Arts in Music from Northeastern Illinois University, where she served as Graduate Assistant. She studied oboe with Takahisa Shinmatsu, Ray Still, and J. Ricardo Castaneda. She has appeared in the Northwest Indiana Symphony, Illinois Symphony and Illinois Philharmonic Orchestras. In February 2011, she was invited to host her oboe solo recital at the Official Residence of the Consul General of Japan in Chicago.

Gerik Fon-Revutzky - Bassoon
Gerik Fon-Revutzky, bassoon and contrabassoon, is an active freelancer and instructor throughout Chicagoland, Milwaukee and Indiana. Gerik is the contrabassoonist with Rockford Symphony, Wisconsin Philharmonic, Fox Valley Symphony and Bel Canto Chorus Orchestra. He also regularly performs on both bassoon and contrabassoon with numerous other area orchestras, and is on the sub list of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Gerik has performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago under the batons of Pierre Boulez and Daniel Barenboim. Gerik has toured and performed extensively both nationally and internationally including Russia, Finland, England and Canada.
In addition to his busy performing schedule Gerik is also an active teacher. Gerik’s major teachers have included: Douglas Huff, Susan Willoughby, Steve Dibner, and Robert Barris. As a conductor Gerik has studied with: Leo Eylar, Mariusj Smolij, and Victor Yampolsky. Gerik has also been included in the International Who’s Who in Music and Musicians’ Directory.

Wanda Braden - Horn
Wanda Braden has been on the faculty of VanderCook College of Music since 2000 teaching the Applied French horn studio. Several of her VanderCook students are now successful music educators in the greater Chicago area and beyond. Wanda has maintained a teaching studio at her home in Bartlett since 1993 helping many students through beginning stages and on to successful college acceptance. Most recently, one of her students of 7 years, played principle horn in the Schaumburg Youth Symphony, was named principle horn of the IMEA All State Honors Orchestra in 2008 and was awarded a scholarship to study music education at ISU. Wanda has been teaching in District 211 schools since 1996 and at Fremd since 1998 and many of her students have continued to study music in college. She is also on the faculty of A & A Music Academy in Hanover Park where she teaches French horn, piano and voice since 1997.
She earned a bachelors degree having studied music at the University of Minnesota with additional studies done at the University of Michigan through the Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan. In Minnesota she studied privately with Priscilla McAfee, priniciple horn of the St. Paul Chamber orchestra. At Interlochen her teachers were Rebecca Root, principle horn of the Rochester Philharmonic and John Jacobsen of the Cleveland Orchestra and John Ceriminaro. In Chicago she has studied with Grace Kang and Daniel Fackler. Wanda has continued to expand her musical education by studying voice with Susan Dennis and piano with Ellen Mosher at Harper College. She has been active as a church musician in her home community of Bartlett.
Wanda is currently coprinciple horn of the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra. She also is a member of the Chicago Symphonic Pops Orchestra and the Harper Symphony Orchestra since 1996. She has appeared regularly with the Rockford Symphony Orchestra, Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Paderewski Symphony, Solid Brass Ensemble and has played numerous musicals for multiple community theatres. She is a member of the Wheaton Municipal Band, considered one of the country's 10 top community bands, since 1996 and has soloed with the Northwest Suburban Concert Band. She is a member of Musicians Union 10-208 and the International Horn Society. She was also a founding member of the Northwest Suburban Horn Club and handles the library for that organization.
She is a member of the Bartlett community where she lives with her husband and three children.

Matthew Gaunt - Euphonium and Tuba
Tubist Matthew Gaunt enjoys a varied career as a performer and educator. He has recorded and toured internationally as a member of Burning River Brass, Proteus 7, and Boston Brass. He has also performed with Empire Brass, Center City Brass Quintet, Rhythm & Brass, Chicago Chamber Musicians, and the Millar Brass Ensemble. He is currently acting principal tuba for the Milwaukee Symphony. He has also performed in concerts and tours with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Lyric Opera, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Pops, Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Ballet, Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, Sarasota Opera, and many regional orchestras in New England and around Chicago. He has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician at festivals such as Tanglewood, Ravinia, Blossom, Chautauqua, and Music Masters MMCK.

Bryan Tipps - Trombone
Bryan Tipps holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies from Roosevelt University and a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies from DePaul University. He has played with many of Chicago’s finest jazz ensembles including the Rob Parton Jazztech Big Band, The City Lights Orchestra, The Chicago Jazz Orchestra, and The Rob Parton Big Band and has also performed alongside Toshiko Akiyoshi, David Liebman, Paul Anka, Phil Woods, and Michael Feinstein, and Johnny Mathis to name a few. He can be heard on Rob Parton’s Jazztech Big Band’s recording “Two Different Days” and the DePaul CD/DVD project “Solitude” featuring Phil Woods. He has performed at many of Chicago’s well-known music venues and festivals including The Jazz Showcase, The Green Mill, Andy’s Jazz Club, The Auditorium Theater, The Chicago Center for the Performing Arts, and The Chicago Jazz Festival.Currently, Bryan teaches jazz trombone at Harper College. Bryan Tipps served as the Assistant Band and Orchestra Director at Schaumburg High School from 2014 to 2019 and as the Orchestra Director at Hoffman Estates High School from 2019-2020. He has held the Principal Trombone chair of the Northshore Concert Band since 2014.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Schaumburg High School is offering all students of any jazz experience or grade level to participate in a free online jazz camp conducted over Zoom.
Administered by trombone section leader Rix Barlow, saxophone section leader Shane Andres, and drum major Alan Medina, students with an interest in jazz learn about bebop articulation, style and the blues with a focus on improvisation and expression.
Beginning on the first week of sectionals, students meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-5:30 pm for three weeks before band camp in preparation for the academic school year.
Students from all grades with prior experience or an interest with jazz are encouraged to participate for an insightful and educational opportunity to learn, despite the circumstances.

Jim Langenberg - Euphonium and Tuba
Jim Langenberg is a versatile musician who loves to play the tuba. He earned his MM from Roosevelt University and his BM from Northern Illinois University. Jim is the Principal Tuba of the Dubuque Symphony and has also performed with the Elgin Symphony, Illinois Philharmonic, Rockford Symphony, Peoria Symphony, Green Bay Symphony, Kenosha Symphony, Whiting Park Festival Orchestra, New Philharmonic, and Northwest Indiana Symphony.

As a member of Mucca Pazza, Jim has performed at the Tour de Fat festival, as well as performing arts centers across the country. In addition, he has also performed with the Chicago Brass Quintet, Alpine Thunder German Band, Big Shoulders Brass Band, and Band Baja Brass. As a teacher, Jim taught for several years at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and maintains a private studio. Jim has been featured as a soloist with the Dubuque Symphony, the Waukegan Symphony, and the Northern Illinois University Philharmonic. Jim’s talents extend beyond low brass. He is the owner of Brazen Bandworks, an instrument repair shop, and resides in Elgin, Illinois, with his wife and twin daughters.

William Russell - Euphonium and Tuba
William has called Chicago home since 2006 when he joined the Civic Orchestra. He has been an occasional substitute with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 2007 and has performed with the CSO on tour in Europe and at New York’s Carnegie Hall. He can also be heard playing on the orchestra’s Grammy-winning recording of Shostakovich’s 4th Symphony. In 2008 and 2009, William traveled to Rome to temporarily fill the tuba position in Italy’s preeminent symphonic orchestra, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
William grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia where he studied with the area's top musicians, including tuba lessons with Steve Layman and Kevin Stees, double bass lessons with Pete Spaar, and jazz studies with trumpeter John D’earth. He has since studied around the US with such tuba legends as Sam Pilafian, Mike Roylance, and Floyd Cooley.

Bryan Tipps - Trombone and Jazz Improvisation
Bryan Tipps has been an active performer in the Chicago area since the age of 15. He studied at Roosevelt University, earning a bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies, and at DePaul University where he earned a master's degree in Jazz Studies. While in Chicago, Bryan has appeared with numerous jazz and recording artists including Paul Anka, Michael Feinstein, Michael Ingersoll, David Liebman, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Phil Woods, and Rob Parton to name a few. He has appeared in such notable Chicago jazz venues such as Andy's Jazz Club, The Green Mill, and The Jazz Showcase. Currently, Bryan teaches private lessons and directs the jazz quintet at Schaumburg High School. He also teaches the District 211 Jazz Improvisation Camp during summer school.

Music Mosaic Concert: Tuesday, September 26th at 7pm
The Schaumburg High School Music Department is proud to present its fourth annual Music Mosaic Concert on Tuesday, September 26th at 7pm in Schaumburg High School's Weimer Auditorium. This special evening will feature performances by the Schaumburg High School Wind Symphony, Concert Choir, and Symphony Orchestra. Several chamber groups featuring students from these ensembles will also perform. Admission is free.
Football Game (Homecoming/Junior High Night): Friday, September 22nd
The Saxon Marching Band welcomes the 8th grade bands from Frost and Keller, as well as SHS alumni celebrating Homecoming 2017. All will join the SMB for our traditional pre-game set, as well as a halftime show featuring over 400 musicians performing of the music of Journey.
Football Game: Friday, September 15th
Come cheer on the SMB on Senior Night in their pre-game and halftime performances. The Saxons take on Glenbrook North Friday at 7:30pm. Call time for band members is 5:30pm. Go Saxons!
Septemberfest Parade: Monday, September 4th - call time 8:45am @ SHS
Come cheer on the SMB as they perform in the Schaumburg Septemberfest Parade on Labor Day. Students will meet at SHS at 9am and bus over to the parade staging area. The parade begins at 10am, and runs north on Summit Drive from Wise Road to the Septemberfest grounds.

The Schaumburg High School Bands are once again excited to present our annual series of Band-Aid Concerts, taking place February 22nd and 23rd at 7:00pm in the SHS Auditorium. The Cadet and Concert Bands will perform the first night, with the Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony performing on the second night. Mr. Brian Logan, Associate Professor of Music at VanderCook College of Music and retired Director of Bands at Wheeling High School, will guest conduct the bands. Holiday Band Concerts: Tuesday, December 8th and Wednesday, December 9th
Join the SHS Bands in the Weimer Auditorium for two nights of outstanding repertoire for band, including many holiday favorites. The Concert Band and Symphonic Band will perform on Tuesday, December 8th, while the Cadet Band and Wind Symphony will perform on Wednesday, December 9th. Both concerts will also feature prelude recitals by Tuba Christmas in the auditorium foyer. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased in the music department or at the door.
The SHS Band Boosters will hold a raffle each night with gift packages donated by families and businesses in the community. All proceeds will go directly back to the SHS Band.

Holiday Band Concerts - Wednesday, December 10th and Thursday, December 11th at 7pm
Join the SHS Bands in the Weimer Auditorium for two nights of outstanding repertoire for band, including many holiday favorites. The Concert Band and Symphonic Band will perform on Wednesday, December 10th, while the Cadet Band and Wind Symphony will perform on Thursday, December 11th. Both concerts will also feature prelude recitals by Tuba Christmas in the auditorium foyer. Tickets are $3 and may be purchased in the music department or at the door.
The SHS Band Boosters will hold a raffle each night with gift packages donated by families and businesses in the community. All proceeds will go directly back to the SHS Band.

NIU Band Day: Saturday, October 4th (9am call time, 4pm kickoff)
The Saxon Marching Band will join the NIU Marching Huskies and other high school bands from around the state at NIU's annual High School Band Day at Huskie Stadium. The SMB will bus from Schaumburg in the morning for the game and halftime performance.

Mr. Inendino is now in his fourth year as band director at Schaumburg High School. Mr. Inendino graduated from Schaumburg High School in 2005 and received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Northwestern University in 2009. A saxophone student of Dr. Frederick Hemke, he was an active member of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, SBE Saxophone Quartet, and Saxophone Ensemble during his time at Northwestern. Mr. Inendino also played mellophone in the NU Wildcat Marching Band and conducted the Basketball Pep Band. In May 2014, he earned a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Mr. Tipps holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies from Roosevelt University; a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies from DePaul University; and a Teaching License from DePaul University. He is a freelance trombonist in the Chicago area and has played with many of Chicago’s finest jazz ensembles including the Rob Parton Jazztech Big Band, The City Lights Orchestra, The Chicago Jazz Orchestra, and The Rob Parton Big Band. He has also performed alongside world renowned musicians such as Toshiko Akiyoshi, David Liebman, Paul Anka, Phil Woods, Michael Feinstein, and Johnny Mathis. He can be heard on Rob Parton’s Jazztech Big Band’s recording “Two Different Days”; the DePaul University Jazz Ensemble CD/DVD project “Solitude” featuring Phil Woods; and the upcoming release of the DePaul University Jazz Ensemble’s live performance at the Jazz Showcase with Grammy-Award-Winning jazz artist Randy Brecker.
Mr. Tipps taught private low brass lessons at Hickory Creek Middle School and at Lincoln Way East High School in Frankfort, IL as well as at Fremd High School where he also directed brass sectionals and the jazz lab band. Septemberfest Parade: Monday, September 2nd (Labor Day) in Schaumburg
Come cheer on the SMB as they perform in the Schaumburg Septemberfest Parade on Labor Day. Students will meet at SHS at 9am and bus over to the parade staging area. The parade begins at 10am, and runs north on Summit Drive from Wise Road to the Septemberfest grounds.

Josh Wirt - Euphonium and Tuba
Josh recently earned a Master's Degree in Tuba Performance at DePaul University. Previously, Josh earned a PGDip (HONS) from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK after receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Tuba Performance from Virginia Tech.
During his time in the UK, Josh performed around England and Austria as a regular member of the Fairey Band (formerly the Williams Fairey Brass Band) as well as the North Cheshire Concert Band under Dr. Timothy Reynish.
After returning from the UK, Josh spent four years working in instructional technology at Virginia Tech as well as maintaining an active freelance and teaching career in Southwest and Central Virginia. Josh has held acting principal tuba positions with the Roanoke Symphony and Opera Roanoke as well as extensive chamber work with the Roanoke Chamber Brass.
Currently, Josh is the tubist with DePaul's graduate brass quintet (Belden Brass) as well as an associate member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Josh is also an active freelance musician and private teacher in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

Department Renovations - Check Out the New Band Room
The SHS Music Department underwent extensive renovations this summer. As part of these renovations, the band room drop ceiling was removed, carpet was replaced with tile, new instrument lockers were installed, the back room was re-purposed for marching drum storage, and new acoustic paneling was installed. Thank you to the administration at Schaumburg High School and Township High School District 211 for their support of the SHS Music Department.

Congratulations to the SHS Band on a Successful 2014 Outback Bowl Tour!
The SHS Bands completed their 2014 Outback Bowl Tour in Orlando and Tampa, FL in December. Trip highlights included:
-Clinic workshops with Disney musicians at EPCOT, including playing soundtracks to various Disney films. -Marching in Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas Parade in the Magic Kingdom (pictured). -Festival performances and clinics for the Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble with Dr. Richard Miles, Dr. Larry Blocher, and Dr. Will Rapp. -Marching in the Outback Bowl Parade on New Year's Eve in Tampa's Ybor City. -Combining with 10 other high school bands from around the country for the Outback Bowl halftime show in front of a crowd of 60,000 and an ESPN audience on New Year's Day. Band Awards Concert - Monday, May 19th - 7pm in the Main Gymnasium
The Schaumburg High School Music Department will present its annual Band Awards Concert on May 19, 2014. The concert will be held in the school's main gymnasium at 7:00 pm. Admission is free and open to the public.
The evening will feature performances by the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Cadet Band. Three students will be featured: Robert Bach, Kyle Picchi and Cory Loft performing the snare drum solos for Field Ayres by Douglas Richard. The Wind Symphony will perform the world premiere of Eternal Landscape by Richard Adams. Mr. Adams is an accomplished composer from the Nashville area. He was a 1979 graduate of Conant High School. Other composers on this program include: King, Torke, Curnow, Balmages and Fillmore.
This evening will also include recognition of the band's Class of 2014, scholarships and end-of-year awards. There will be a reception in the student cafeteria immediately following the concert.

The Schaumburg High School Music Department presents: EPIC PERCUSSION!!! Concert. The program takes place Tuesday, May 6th in the Weimer Auditorium at the high school. The concert begins at 7:00 pm and is FREE to the public. The Wind Symphony Percussion Ensemble, Symphonic Percussion Ensemble, Concert Percussion Group, Cadet Percussion Choir, and SaxonSTOMP will perform, along with solos by Robert Bach, Griffin Lober, Ryan Petritis, Ethan Garratt, Katie Amidon, and Alexis Reddy. The evening’s program will have something for everyone, from pop music to standard percussion repertoire.

The Schaumburg High School Band is once again excited to present its annual series of Band-Aid Concerts, taking place March 17th and 18th at 7:00 PM in the Weimer Auditorium. The Cadet and Concert Bands will perform the first night, with the Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony performing on the second night. In addition, guest conductor Tom Beckwith (retired Director of Bands from Warren Township High School) will be featured with all four bands. Columbus Day Parade: Monday, October 14th at 9am
Cheer on the Saxon Marching Band as they perform in the Columbus Day Parade in downtown Chicago. The parade begins at 12:30pm, and runs north on Columbus from Balbo to Monroe. The parade is televised live on Comcast 217 and will also be aired on Sunday, October 20th on ABC 7. Call time for students is 9am at SHS.

Homecoming & Junior High Night: Friday, September 27th at 7pm
The Saxon Marching Band will share the field with guests both young and...not as young...at this year's homecoming game. Junior high students from Addams, Frost, and Keller Junior Highs will join the SMB for our pre-game and halftime performances. Additionally, SHS band alumni will be on hand to celebrate homecoming and Mr. Miller's final year of teaching.

NIU Band Day: Saturday, September 21st (morning through late evening)
The Saxon Marching Band will join the NIU Marching Huskies and other high school bands from around the state at NIU's annual High School Band Day at Huskie Stadium. The SMB will bus from Schaumburg in the morning for a 6pm kickoff against Eastern Illinois University.

Manna Fundraiser Information - September Gift Card Delivery
See below for information on our most current Manna fundraiser. Orders are due on Thursday, August 22nd and will be available for pick up on Tuesday, September 10th. If you have any questions regarding Manna fundraisers, please contact Debbie Grimm, Manna Fundraising Chair, at [email protected].

The IMEA All-State Showcase is now on display outside of the auditorium, near the Band Quilt and across from the Distinguished Scholars display. This showcase recognizes all SHS musicians who have participated in All-State Band, Orchestra, Choir, or Jazz Band since 2002.

Marching Band Sectionals: Monday afternoons in the SHS Music Department
Summer sectionals for all band members continue every Monday through Band Camp. Sectionals begin at 1pm and end at 3:30pm (4pm for drumline). This is the time when we will learn all of the music for our fall half-time show and parades, as well as marching fundamentals. All students should plan on being at sectionals every week, unless you are out-of-town. Contact your section leader if you will be absent. Their contact info and more information can be found on the Marching Band page (under Bands).
